cloaked in breaking a tradition

Written by lam0beaner

Friday the 13th.

Today is the day that my husbands best friend married his long time girlfriend. It was nothing fancy, very intimate in front of the magistrate. A grand event that cloaked the age-old superstition of gloom and doom.

It was beautiful. The words the magistrate recited were lovely. Not just the usual vows but going further to speak about “two rivers that flow into one ocean”, “leaning on their love during struggles”, I did not have my phone, which was an opportunity lost, for I surely would have recorded it.

Their witnesses

It was a couple that have enjoyed many years together that stood up with them. A good friend and previous co-worker of my husbands, and his beautiful wife. Those two also made arrangements for their reception. They did a great job. Still just the few family and friends, but a perfect ending to a happy occasion.

I’m so proud that hubby and I were able to be a part of it. It brought back joyful memories of the day, 18 years ago, that my husband and I made the commitment to each other. And as I looked around the room I thought of the years that have passed since our relationships began. For my hubby and the groom, the bride and myself, we go back to school days.

A new tradition

No longer will I view Friday the 13th as a day of waiting for the other shoe to drop. Forever more I will think about our long time friends and their anniversary. Their holding of each other’s gaze throughout the ceremony, exampled devotion and deep love for one another, will be something to treasure.

Many years have passed bringing with it new beginnings and new endings. I would not  change a thing or pine away for different outcomes. The days past led to the present and future days for hubby and myself. I truly hope that the couple married today will experience similar or better happy days to come.

With love, congratulations to the happy couple!
