Observe our anniversary weekend

We observe a 19 year anniversary Saturday

I find it hard to believe that the time has rolled around again to observe another year together. We’ve been together so long now that even hubby is having trouble figuring out how many years. The other day we were on the phone to his aunt. I told her we were celebrating 16 years together. Hubby said “no, 18 years”. Today he tells me it’s our 19 year anniversary.

All I know is that it’s been a wonderful and wild time together. Our lives have been truly blessed. We’ve ran the gamut on relational emotions. Finally our lives together got sweeter than I could have ever imagined. I entered the relationship not knowing what love was or even if I was capable of it. I know now and am able to give AND receive!

The greatest thing

Hubby and I connecting is the greatest thing on this earth. Through our struggles we have made it to the sweet spot of togetherness.  We are more durable, less offensive; more supportive, less judgmental; more enjoyable, less hateful; all around more lovable, less critical.

We’ve had to weather arguments, crippling situations, stubbornness, meanness, stupidity, just the usual stuff relationships are made of. But we were the lucky ones to make it through all life brought down on us. Not only that we managed to do so without laying hands on each other, diminishing one another by name calling or taking from each other. However there were many tears and we even went to counseling.

Surviving each other

Staying together, for some reason, was most important to us. I’m thankful for that. As a result we are happier and stronger together. I used to wonder how people in the older times could marry when they didn’t love each other. I see now how it’s possible to develop the emotion out of survival. There’s a lot to be gleaned from a person over the course of a lifetime. I’m looking forward to it!
