What if we were no longer fashionable?

Written by lam0beaner

I have never been fashionable.

I buy clothes and I wear them. I don’t know the first thing about what’s trending. I have no idea how to be vogue. I also don’t care about peer pressure. So, in school when the popular girls were trending and the envy of all the other girls, I was out at smokers corner hanging out in my own style. Usually jeans and a peasant top – that’s my favorite.

It causes me to pause though, because in lite of my post yesterday, what would happen if there were no more fashion? It used to be a multi-billion dollar industry, now it is a trillion-dollar industry that is global.

Social status

If there was no way to tell ones social status; everyone dressed modestly, vehicles were not designed for prestige, everyone could travel anywhere and there was no first class or private air transportation, no need for a mouth piece of wrong and right, what need would we have of someone corralling us? There would be no envy of money or power, right?

Political control

Would there be such a thing if it were not fashionable? The court of public opinion would be old-fashioned, functioning from a “wrong and right” perspective. It would be passé to try to control others. There would be no peer pressure. How would people react to the bad seeds of society?

I envision they would be contented to spend their days in the same place of existence. Where the more functioning cared for the less functioning and they all contributed in some way to humanity. Just as the unfashionable work and contribute, so do they. We live in an unfashionable world and go to work the next day. Political correctness be damned!

Judgment free

No more entitlements, bullying or one-sided opinions, no more reason to support any of those. Our faults go unrecognized. Love becomes the natural form of expression. Would it not? All things negative would have no meaning. No one would have value or be valued more than another. If we were not judgemental, wouldn’t we care equally about our fellow man and willingly contribute to a level playing field? Could our world still be as colorful without fashion?

Knowing, as I do, that we are on a predestined course, I envision that all eternity will be without fashion and I’m okay with that! 😊
